2004 V70R having some troubles with sport mode

Post by jakebvrs »

I've been having some trouble with my sport mode button, and it only seems to work randomly; in this video I took, I'm even pressing the board button, and it still has a hard time. The car only has 150k on it, and the 4c suspension works cause when I turn it onto advanced, the sport mode engages. But it doesn't want to turn on when I'm in comfort or even in sport. The button is wholly ruined. The paint is all gone, and I was looking to paint and fix it. I'm not too sure if I should look into getting a new board or if it's something else I should worry about. Maybe I should give it another deep clean.

You need Vida to properly check those buttons - there is a specific test that checks the voltage from each button press or if the issue lies deeper with the sum module.
I’d be very suspicious of those switches, but Vida would be the best way to start to solve your issue. Do you have access to junkyard parts to swap it out ?
In the mean time start by cleaning the board with isopropyl alcohol and cue tips. If your handy with a soldering iron , changing out that button is not a big deal. Replacement buttons are easy to source from RS, Mouser etc just note it’s specs.

Edit - I’ve just watched it again …
So what your saying is - when your in advanced mode the suspension changes. But when your in comfort or sport modes the suspension doesn’t change? Or the sport button down by the gear change doesn’t come on when your in sport or comfort mode when you press it?

so when I'm in comfort it’ll work sometime but when I put it into advanced it automatically turns it on. the thing is the car hasn’t had these buttons and lights work in such a long time. now my other issue is the light isn’t showing for the sport and The advanced suspension is only for comfort.

The button down by the shift will light when ever you push it no matter what suspension mode your in. It will only go on by itself ( if it is off) when you select advanced mode. It won’t light automatically when you select comfort or sport mode.
When your in comfort or sport suspension setting that button by the gear lever changes your shift revs and throttle response( it will stay around 2500rpm for quicker acceleration).
If you forget you have it pushed you wonder why your going through the carpark at 2500rpm.

I’d replace that tactical switch and reassess from there.
