You cannot get new plates made up with the same licence numbers if it wears out, you have to retire it and get a new different licence assigned. We also only have one plate on the rear of the car. Still don't understand that one.

I believe we can get antique plates but don't know the rules on that one.

You can also get speciality plates with your set of up to 7 digits within limits.

Stupid system all around that you cannot get a new plate with the same number renewed and swap the old one in when you get the new version.

Neil.
Hi,

Oh that's interesting. Also the one plate on back is even more interesting. If you are trying hard to beat getting a speeding ticket if you can get really really good at driving really really fast in reverse, they cant get your plate number (har har) :-)
I’ve been driving a Volvo long before anyone ever paid me to drive one.
That's probably because I've been driving one since 2015 and nobody has offered to pay me yet.

Arizona is also one of the so called " Rugged 19 ", - states that only require one license plate.

In Maryland it's twenty years, and a dedicated hard plate is issued. In Delaware, it's 25 years, and simply stamped "Historic" on the yearly sticker . Both states say something to the effect of club functions, parades, shows and such, although Maryland used to say 'other occasional use'. Both places frown on folks putting those plates on daily drivers; some states put it bluntly in the regulations. Most vintage car insurance policies are worded the same. Enforcement is anybody's guess, probably varies not just state wide, but subject to the whim of whichever Barney Fife you run into. How other places would check mileage is a mystery to me.
MD and DE don't require inspections after the plate/sticker is issued, and renewals are free.
Your results may vary.

Two plates are great as you can half your registration costs if you buy all Nautic Blue wagons

Kansas and Oklahoma have single plates on the rear. Recent change in OK plate law - you keep the plate if you sell the car and put the plate on your new vehicle. Previously, the new owner got the benefit of your tag until it expired later that year. Active tags have a annual sticker in the corner and the plate number stays the same.
Another OK feature: If your vehicle is not operating/drivable/under repair, you buy a 'black tag' sticker and do not have to provide proof of insurance. Driving the black tag vehicle will get you a ticket. If you do not keep paying for the black tag, when you return the vehicle to the road, you have to pay all the back years plus a penalty.
Another oddity of OK - there are no annual taxes on vehicles after the purchase excise tax is paid. Only annual fee is the tag sticker - about $29 after 20 years old.

We have no sales tax on initial purchase price, but our annual tags pay county taxes, state park fee, etc. We also keep our old plates when we sell the car.
