Horn and siren unit or combined? 2001 s60

Post by yabadabadoo1026 »

other day when inside the horn on car just went off by itself ( not off my key fob) and stayed on primarily but off intermittently before on again for 10 minutes until the fuse blew ( before i could find the book telling me which fuse to pull). Put another fuse in and it blew right away.

Is the horn unit and the siren/security unit seperate or do they both work off the same replacement part.

Any thought on what may have triggered this and resolution/ troubleshoot short of having to replace the unit ( again all 1 unit or are they seperate)

Thanks

I think the 01 is same as the later ones where there is an issue with the alarm horn where the battery dies and then leaks onto the circuit board and blows the fuse which also takes out the sunroof as well.

the alarm is separate, you can disable the alarm and still have the drivers horn,
alarm horn is in the fender.
drivers horn is behind the front grill,
sounds like you may have a pinched wire.

thanks guys-----------total overlook not looking for youtube vids as is standard practice for me. This A1Auto girl is always good on these vids-----crazy what you have to go thru to get to a horn. I'm pretty handy fixing stuff but not good with electrical----suppose the horn can be checked with a meter ????? , can you tell me the process. Aso she says there are 2 horns so guess if i disconnect both and hook them up individually i can determine which one is blowing the fuse------any idea if each horn will sound individually or if one is bad it knocks out the other from sounding ?

I like to trace circuits with a fox and hound type tracer, it injects an audio signal you can track with a detector probe..
It can track a wire through a fender.
Disconnect car battery doh.

The version I bought was around $29 on amazon.
