I agree with the other guys on the old plugs look well past their shelf life! Run the car for a while and see if it returns, then we can worry about it together if it happens!

Geronimo will soon be for sale. The owner has replaced it with a 2008 XC70. I felt the car was rehabilitating nicely so I'll be sad to see it go. It just received lots of new and good used parts and drives fairly well. Is there someone in New England who needs a 2000 V70 with 350k miles and a bunch of recent work? Or should I buy it to finish its restoration before selling it? What's the trick for taking ownership of a car but not taking the title into my name, which is how I assume dealerships do it.

Needs to drive:
Front right wheel bearing (I have a used one and new hardware)

Needs to pass inspection:
Front right tie rod end
Rear O2 sensor?
VVT solenoid replace or rehab
Parking brake cables, shoes, and rear dust shields
Front reluctor rings to stop ABS triggering (it's currently disconnected)

Needs for preventative maintenance:
Oil change
Timing belt, tensioner, and coolant pump (I have used ones)
Accessory belt and tensioner?

Needs for functionality:
Rear window is stuck down, so new switch or regulator (I have both used)
Headlights with good reflectors

Recently received:
3x calipers - new
4x brake pads and rotors - new
ETM - used
Windshield - new
Power steering fluid tank - new
ABS module - rebuilt
2x front seats - used
Spark plugs - new
Nokian snow tires on spare wheels - barely used
Other small new and used parts

If you end up with it, and the owner is OK doing it, just have them sign - but not date - the title, and leave it open. Dealers usually have the legal authority to reassign titles without a trip to DMV on their part. With an open title, some care should be taken when you pass the car along. An old friend who has dealt used cars on his own for decades fills out a bill of sale, and copies the proud new owners' driver license.
Some states require a notary, which could complicate matters.

Here in MI, that's called "jumping title" and it's illegal, although lots of people do it.

Interesting info, thanks. I'll call my town to see how it can be handled.

Still the bigger question is should I be doing this at all. 350k miles could really discourage a buyer. But I'd hate to scrap a car which I think could be good for another 50k miles with some effort.

Not seen many P80's with that high a mileage up here but I have seen a few P2's with over 500,000km on them and still running well.

I'm now the proud owner of Geronimo with 357k miles. Poor thing drives terribly but the DTC codes reveal whats wrong. It's just a matter of replacing the parts. First step, a used coil pack fresh off the express train from Albany.

The front wheels got quite hot after a 30 min drive. Their center caps are removed so I could feel that the axle bolts were even hotter. Yes, it's 92 degrees and sunny today. The front right wheel bearing is very loud. I don't think the calipers are dragging (one new, one recent and tested good). Could friction from the wheel bearing cause so much wheel heat, on both sides?

VIDA says it can't communicate with the climate control module. But the climate control is manual so does it have a CCM? It worked six months ago. Maybe a fuse blew, but I wonder what blew it.

500 ml of water onto each wheel after drive.

If it steams, its ok.

If the water dances off and sizzles and cracks, too hot.

(you can also use an IR gun an report data, WTFIT?)

MCC uses electronic commands to arrange the air distribtuion only. If that works, ignore VIDA

My 1999 Shagg just got back from new keys and VIDA said...it couldnt talk to the MCC controller either.

After making a foolish attempt to repair a power steering pressure line, I replaced it with a used one. That line must have been leaking for years considering all the filth I cleaned out from under it. Steering is still stiff when turning while stopped but works when I'm moving, so that's the next concern.

Next job is to replace the front wheel bearing which is spectacularly failed. Last month when I tried to replace it, the final bolt of the wheel hub was rusted in place and wouldn't remove, stripping the head. I had to reassemble everything with the hub not replaced. Next week, I'll try again to get that darn bolt out. I may have to buy a blow torch because I can't seem to find one in the decently stocked Makerspace.

With these two jobs complete, the car will at least be safe to drive around town. I may have to sell it in this condition instead of repairing it to pass inspection. Sad to say, but I'd rather put my time into preparing my 2000 V70 for sale and rehabilitating the new T5M.
