Temperature gauge low

Normally it's just slightly over the 1/;2 mark but today, (after our first cold night last night if that means anything) it's the dashboard gauge is low, maybe 1/3rd of the way up. It did rise a bit after 20 minutes or so but still not what it always is. Is that a bad thermostat maybe? -- thank you

I would suspect a bad thermostat sticking open a bit. Mine was that way when I bought it.

Try unplugging and replugging the connector to the coolant sensor first, it's an easy first step in case the contacts are cheesy, at least on the -'00 cars. If you go for the thermostat, use caution on those torx fasteners; pre-treat with the fluid of your choice for a day or 2, clean the bottom of the hole, nice sharp bit, straight into the head, &c.
And where are you, exactly, that you can describe the weather anywhere in the States as "cold" ? 80 at 8 AM here for me.
