In HS, I almost talked my parents into a V6 wagon instead of the 245, since they were used to V8s. They sat in it, drove it, studied the brochure....I was pretty sure they were going to do it.

They bought an American V8 wagon.

But that V6 was the Peugeot Renault Volvo joint project, right, and had serious reliability / longevity problems? So it's just as well I guess. I'd have never heard the end of it.

5 cylinders and 5 gears , extras are just added weight.

I suppose you could say for Volvo 240, 4 cylinders and 4 gears. Anything else was extra weight.
