Just wanted to add a tip that worked for me because some of the paths caused my system to execute and install seemingly ok, but then at the login screen I couldn't enter a username.
* Assume all scripts have been run and you've gotten as far as the VIDA login screen
* shut down vida
* Put the small patch file in some directory away from c:\vida, I used c:\temp
If you execute the patch exe, it wants to put 2 folders (jboss\ and patch\ ) into the destination (vida) folder but that doesn't always work.
Run the patch .exe, but direct it to extract to the temp directory that's below where you've put patch.exe.
So for me it ended up as
c:\temp\patch.exe
c:\temp\patchfolder\jboss (this is a folder)
c:\temp\patchfolder\patch (this is a folder)
-> I created patchfolder to keep it separate from the patch.exe
* open the file c:\temp\patchfolder\patch\license and change the subscriptionExpireDate attribute to something past today (I set mine to 2025), and save the file
* now, MOVE the patch folder and its contents to c:\vida.
Run patch.exe again.

I noticed that this still gives a tskill error, but things otherwise work for me, so I'm not pushing it. I hope this helps someone after a day of hitting my head against a wall.

tskill is Windows XP. For Vista - Windows 11, tskill is available as taskkill. That why you get the error. You could edit the scripts in the patch by changing tskill to taskkill. Most people don't have a problem with the error. That why it never got changed in the patch script. The patch is a self executing WinRAR file. You can open and edit it with WinRAR.

You might be able to make a copy of taskill as tskill. That should let Windows find the command with both spellings.

One thing I do not understand is after the program has been out for this long, why has no one dumped it to pure HTML and uploaded somewhere so we can access the data without the IE requirement.

It is a Microsoft SQL database running on JBoss Application Server 7 with a few support programs like IsoView for the vector graphics.

Open a browser and go to address 127.0.0.1 when Vida monitor is running.
127.0.0.1/Vida/ ( localhost/Vida/ ) is the address for Vida.

Hello, I'm having trouble logging in. it doesn't matter if i use admin, or 1, 2, etc.. I get " unknown error, please contact help desk." Im using IE tab on edge. it does the same on chrome. I've had this successfully running on a previous laptop, not sure what's goin on. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.

Edit- Figured it out. had to stop VIDA then reinstall the patch.

If you can convert Vida to html and find a work around for everything else like ActiveX controls .. we will erect a statue of you in the MVS hall of fame.

I poked around in there with the same idea in 2008 or 2009. I don't recall the issues I ran into, but I recall abandoning the project (not for copyright reasons, for technical ones).
Help keep MVS on the web -> click sponsors' links here on MVS when you buy from them.

Also -> Amazon link
. Click that when you go to buy something on Amazon and MVS gets a cut!

Hey Rick,

Great write up and happy to see that there is a patch for Windows 10
However i am having problems with running the scripts 1-3 as my computer throws a message that they ar 16 bit, and it needs 64bit scripts…

Any chance you can help with that?

The scripts work on 64bit operating systems. Got to be something in your system or something your doing different.
