Dear MVS Readers,
I am coming up to two years of ownership of a 2006 V70 2.5T. The car has about 215k kilometers and is shared by myself and partner. I have replaced all engine mounts, front lower control arms and had poly inserts fitted to the subframe bushings. Every change has produced noticeable improvements in ride quality.
I have been advised by my trusted repair shop that the right outer tie rod needs to be replaced. Would you advise that both sides inner and outer tie rods be replaced at the same time? Or is replacing just the single worn tie rod sufficient? Also do you reckon the steering rack boots should be renewed as well, or are these low-wear items?
Many thanks for your advice.
Advised right outer tie rod is loose; replace only that or all steering wear components? Topic is solved

Worth doing both as you need a toe in setting after a tie rod end, which costs more than the end!
If the boots and clips are in good shape leave them alone

Thanks for your reply and advice Abscate. I think I will purchase right and left outer tie rod ends--skipping the inners and the boots this time.
Cheers,
Hugh

Strange as we replaced just the RH outer about 18 months ago as well. We did not touch the left and so far so good. 2006 XC70.
For the cost/labor on the part and that you have to have an alignment done after it, I would recommend doing both. We only did the one as my son was dealing with his car at the dealer.
Neil.

Coincidences are truly interesting. Thanks for sharing that information Neil. I ordered the right and left outer tie rods today from Parts Avatar. I went with the Mevotech Supreme line. I'm sure they'll perform solidly for years to come.
