Still haven't driven it more than a mile. Inspection and tags next week if the weather holds.

I think most wouldn't mind adopting that Redheaded Problem Child. From the looks of it seems worth the trouble!

Went to look at a possible project or the offer to help fix the car for the young lady owner. It was a 99 S70 NA base.

First issue was it was green. My least favorite Volvo color (419). There was minor damage to the area above the hood grille. It had been left unrepaired so there was rust over 12" wide and peeling paint over 4" wide. Then there was further rust at the front lower edge of the driver's door and it was deep rust. Finally, there was rust on the rear passenger side just behind the rear fender well.

Final 'body; issue was a cracked windshield right in the driver's eye-line about 6" running down from the top edge.

So if that was not enough to put me off, there was the missing fuel flap cover and cover over the trunk lock key hole.

Car at least started right up and that is where the muffler was blowing at the flexi-pipe. Should mention it had a key fob that only worked from about 3 feet from the car near the center of the windshield.

When the car started a whole bunch of dash warning lights were on. ABS/TRACS, Engine check light, water level light and more.

Opened the hood and the there was no water to be seen in the header bottle. Oil leaking around the area of the filler cap/PCV pipe.

The owners dad said the brakes were so bad as the daughter had run the car on no brake material left!

I didn't even bother to look under the car as the numbers were already to far past do-able without the body and windshield.

Recommended the scrap the car. Not worth fixing!

All that was mentioned in the ad were the brakes were bad!

Unfortunate, but realistic it was beyond saving.

Neil.

That's too bad. I wish we didn't use salt on roads.

On the color..... I tried looking it up, since green is my favorite color (in general). I come up with 419 being Pewter silver / Silver sand metallic.

Yeah, now I’m curious which green you’re referring to. I love emerald green. Tropic green is hit or miss, I’ve seen some that are beautiful and others that look awful.

Yup my mistake. Emerald green. I have owned 3 previous green vehicles and all were money pits! Not as bad as the 'R' but for more average cars (95 Yukon, 76 BMW 320, and 98 V70XC) I tend to stay clear of green cars!!

This car was way beyond economic repair. I counted over $3000 and that assumes it was not a head gasket causing the coolant to disappear. That does not include rust repairs or replacement hood and LH front door.

It goes to prove my opinion that people up here run their cars to death and uneconomic repair. :(

There is a coral red 98 S70 T5 for sale. Looking for $5000 CDN and then list a bunch of issues and omit the fact that the ABS/Tracs light was also on! Now abscate might ant that one as it is a stick shift!

3D printing is an awesome thing, and the great thing is that there are files out there for so many of these sorts of interior bits that are brittle plastic and prone to breaking.
