Do you think it’s possible to seat the new ball joint in with the knuckle on the strut tower still? I’d like to avoid getting an alignment if possible. My alignment tech is a surly old man who is going to give me crap for getting my third alignment in two years… but he’s good at his job and he’s cheap
What did you do to your P2 Volvo today?

I’ve done all my previous bearings with everything connected. I find theres plenty of room to reach the bolts when you jack the knuckle up a bit. I imagine with the lower balljoint disconnected and the axle out of the way I’m going to be swimming with room back there!

It is totally possible to seat the balljoint in situ, just clean out the bore with emery cloth. I don't think its much of an interference fit in my experience. You can also use the bolts to seat the balljoint, that will take less than 10 ft pound of torque on those bolts which will not cause damage to the balljoint or lower control arm, I know this practice is frowned upon but both times I've done these balljoints they've gone in extremely easy with very little force. Honestly I don't even know why they sell that installation tool.

Interesting - on mine, I had to give plenty of whacks on the galv pipe rig to get it to seat. I believe I installed the ipd HD ball joints. Don't know if they have some machining variations and might be tighter (?).

I’ve read there’s pretty big variation from aftermarkets to OEM for them, 0.08inch comes to mind from a post I saw. Might explain why it’s so hard for some brands to get pressed in. I’m going to use the freezer and iron pipe trick.

I hauled 3 bales of straw today...one in the passenger seat, one in the back seat, and one in the trunk. Who needs a wagon? lol Now I need to get the shop vac out and clean up the mess.

Several years ago, I helped my son set up a road bike race course for his team. We PACKED Betty with hay bales several times to drop them around the course. I'm still finding hay in odd places inside that car.

Years ago, when I was selling pumpkins and other fall yard decorations, I was an hour away from home at a farmers market. There were small (like 18 inch long) straw bales available at a reasonable price. I was driving a Honda wagon. I think I packed 17 of the little bales in the Honda. That straw gets everywhere.

some ball joints are too big, i had one that needed grinding down to make it fit.
I think it was for the XC control arm which is not alum, its steel.
Anyway, it was ok even after I ground all the knurling away.

Well, it was over a week or so when I washed the Project 2007 S60 2.5. When I arrived at my folks the other day the electrician said someone sprayed down the S60 but not the S80. He heard something going on outside but when he came out he didn't see anything. It was completely wet.
A neighbor had told me that some of the other neighbors were asking about the parking of 2 car in our driveway (1 allowed). Not wanting to think
... Perhaps someone thought the car was dirty, but how? I ask one neighbor if they saw anyone and she said it just rained not too long ago. Didn't know the other neighbor well enough to ask, besides why would anyone just hose down one car. Sorry, long story short but yesterday it rain again.
