2002 V70-XC, 120K miles, lacking power

Post by MikeChick »

Earlier today my 02 V70 started running almost like it wasn't firing on all cylinders. Even at idle, the engine is clearly loping. The car will drive but it lacks power. On any sort of incline it will struggle and the CEL will flash until I'm no longer calling for power at which time it extinguishes itself. I've been hearing some "muffler" noise that I arrtibuted to a heat shield. I'm now thinking maybe I have a plugged catalytic converter? Any other ideas?

Thanks, does the fact that the CEL doesn't stay illuminated tell me anything?

Possibly. They may be misfire codes...some OBD-II systems momentarily illuminate the MIL to indicate a misfire. Otherwise, it could be that the ECU considers them 'intermittent' codes.

Dealer read the codes and, as VCA suggested, they were misfire codes. Come to find out I had a bad coil. Fixed now and car is happy again.

Thanks to all for your assistance.
