I need a new key/fob for my 2007 XC70...

Post by AylmerQc »

I need a new fob/key for my 2007 XC70. The little antenna on the old one got wrecked (I'd rather not go into details...). Obviously the dealer ones cost a bundle.
Can I take a used one from a wrecked car or even a new Volvo one sold on FB Marketplace for an S60 and take that to the dealer to be programmed or does it have to be a brand new XC70-specific FOB key?

.
My dealer will not guarantee it can be programmed unless the FOB is purchased from them. I maybe out the programming fee besides not knowing if it's the key itself.

The key is relatively cheap, about $50 and then programming $150 or so.

The fob is expensive.

An indie with VIDA will usually do any key, a dealer won’t, imhe

Can't remember if MVS "yagger" is able and at a more reasonable rate?

The dealer tells me I must bring the car in.
I'm guessing whomever programs the key needs access to the car..?

Should get a second opinion as I was told if I send them the registration they can take care of it. If you lose the key and the car is locked do they expect you to have tow truck company break into the vehicle and brought to them or just use the VIN? They also told me Volvo corp controls the codes so they have little control over the process as they are basically the middle man with a machine. Give "yagger" a call! Great people and very knowledgeable.

From 1999 on the car must be physically present , connected to a computer, and Vida must be connected to Volvo via the internet , with a valid subscription.

Yagger can do this remotely from his location but you still need to connect your car to your computer and connect to him

Must have gotten yagger mixed up with Volvo in terms of vehicle being at locality. The connection to the vehicle is key, pun intended :D.
