One other path to a cat. You can buy a car at auction , part it out and recover most of your costs, and essentially get the cat for cost of part out labor

One of the sites, Philadelphia, actually has an underbelly shot of the cars so you can see the condition of the cat pre-purchase

Last week I took my S70 to an exhaust specialty shop in PA and they welded in a universal catalytic. The check engine light has stayed off since. My state inspection is next week so hopefully it will pass.

I have a some P80 cats but I dont think they are turbos, your downpipe and diameter are different

Have you asked Brumsted at IFC Service if he can find one?

Go Big Red!! Are you attached to CHESS (guess from username)
Hi Steve,

What did you mean by "only 3 years from no emissions inspection at all!"?
I’ve been driving a Volvo long before anyone ever paid me to drive one.
That's probably because I've been driving one since 2015 and nobody has offered to pay me yet.

In NY at 25 model years , OBD compliance is no longer required. Next year , in 2023, my 4 1999s will pass the last test for codes , in 2024 it will just be safety inspections

Yes, then you can start the end of the world with exhaust emissions unchecked!! :o

Up here we have been doing that for years! No emissions checks in the 20+ years I have lived here. Not sure any repair shops even have equipment to test emissions at the tailpipe. I think they only rely on check engine lights here.

For those of you (Abscate, Atomic Forces, and Kallekula to date) with third party replacement Cats, do you recall which model you got and where in the mix you are putting the downstream O2 sensor (if at all). The Cat on my '99 V70 XC rusted from the inside out and, as an emergency resort, I had a muffler shop straight pipe it as a Cat delete with the downstream 02 sensor just bung'ed into the new length of pipe.

Take care and stay safe all,

The only aftermarket cat I have is a Bosal on the Kat, but I didn’t source it. It came with the car as bought. It passes all the OBD tests without codes.

I bought one used Cat from a member here as it was cheap and I thought it would be good to have a spare.

Listed at $125, I sent a pm to buy which he missed, and then he lowered the price. I sent him a pm thst I would honor his original first price. He shipped it happy, and I picked it up at my office. On the way home , my original cat dropped off, and I pulled into my indie with the part in the trunk.

…and some people still don’t believe in karma ….

With a CAT delete and the downstream O2 sensor plugged into the bare exhaust pipe, would the engine throw a particular code or would the fuel-air mixture be thrown off?

I live in Minnesota and, although we like our clean air and water, I am not required to smog test my car. I'm seeking the lofty goal of no CELs.

I'd like to replace the CAT, but it is not project priority number one on this car at this time.
