If the voltage gets too low on the '99 V70, eventually the TCM will refuse to allow you to move the car. You'll initially be able to rev the engine and then eventually all you'll get is idling (ETM) before she shuts off. It would appear there are some thresholds within the modules that will initially give you a bit of leeway before saying absolutely not.
