Volvo EX90, the XC90's Electric Replacement, Will Debut November 9
  • Volvo's new electric SUV will be called the EX90.
  • This model will eventually replace the current XC90.
  • It debuts on November 9 and will likely go on sale in the U.S. next year.
Volvo has confirmed that its new electric flagship SUV will be called EX90, and that this new model will debut November 9. Slated to replace the XC90, the EX90 should look much like last year's Recharge concept car, pictured here. We expect it to go on sale in the U.S. sometime next year as a 2024 model.

The EX90 will accelerate Volvo's transition to a fully electric lineup, as it will be built at Volvo's factory in South Carolina that's slated to eventually produce only EVs. But, since Volvo doesn't plan to complete the EV transition until 2030, there will be some overlap between the new EX90's rollout and the end of XC90 production.

EX90?? Well, it's a cool shape, I'll say that. It looks big - or it has YUGE wheels in that rendering.

I first read Rowan Atkinson and was a bit surprised....

He's SKAW-ish!

Yea, they're changing the name, which is a mistake.

So many owners already write "CX-90"... ask me how I know. [forums->edit->edit post title X1000]

Oh, South Carolina, I just saw that (reading comprehension!) That's interesting - American made and maybe gets them around the legislation controlling EV tax credits.

Tireless sensors

Start with the outside. State-of-the art sensors like cameras, radars and LiDAR, all powered by our core computing platform and software, work together to create a 360-degree real-time view of the world.

Our sensors don’t get tired or distracted. They are designed to respond and react when you’re just a millisecond too late. Our LiDAR senses the road in front of you, whether it’s day or night, also at highway speeds. It can see small objects hundreds of metres ahead, creating more time to inform, act and avoid.

And as our cars hit the roads and we learn from the data they generate, our research indicates that our software and sensors can help reduce accidents that result in serious injury or death by up to 20 per cent.

Likewise, we estimate we can even improve overall crash avoidance by up to 9 per cent, which could lead to millions of accidents avoided over time. That would be a big step in safety and for mankind.

Tireless sensors? I kept thinking TPMS? No TPMS in the wheels? No tires? :?

Does that quote suggest that Volvo is monitoring the sensors in newer cars to learn and adapt? How do you feel about having your activity monitored?

I believe that is the norm for all companies with self drive(ish) capabilities.

They're going to need way beefier B & C-pillars on that prototype to meet Volvo rollover standards.

I'm suspicious that this sleek looking show car (or rendering) is just an idea or "gesture" and the real thing will be significantly different. It won't have 24" wheels, it won't be near that far off the ground, and it won't have all that glass.
