2002 S80 T6 Front Stabilizer Bar Swap with XC90...?

Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

2002 S80 T6 Front Stabilizer Bar Swap with XC90...?

Post by Mandude »

Hi, All,
New to the forum, so go easy...
My '02 S80 T6 needs a new front stabilizer bar. The end snapped off on the passenger side :/
I have been chatting with someone who installed a front stabilizer bar from an XC90 into an XC70 and he loves it. He suggested that maybe I try to do the same with my S80. He says the XC90 ones are cold-rolled steel, whereas the XC70 ones (and the one on my S80) are hollow. He says the ride is considerably more stable at high speeds. Stiffens it up.
Is there anyone out here that could enlighten me as to why I should absolutely not try this, or if maybe there is an upside to it. I have no experience here.
FWIW, the Volvo part that is made for the S80 I need is 9461483. My badge is marked "4".
The XC90 part is 30635778.
My main concerns are that either the bushings won't line up, or that the mod might be either too long or too short and interfere with the suspension somewhere. And would the stock links fit?
I'm game to try an upgrade, but this is my daily driver with lots of miles, and not a restoration or super-build candidate, and my repair allowance is limited, and I don't want to have to do this a second time.
I may have just answered my question, but I would like to hear what someone with some experience has to say.
Thanks in advance :)
