P2 Can someone tell me what this part is? 31400692

This part on my car looks broken. There was a spring in side and it fell out. I dont know what the replacement part is.

Can you tell us all which system this pump is in and it’s function? Could this be the quiet motor you hear sometimes after shutoff?

The pump provides vacuum to the brake booster. It only runs to build vacuum when you turn the car on, and subsequently after that when you depress the brake pedal only if the switch hasn’t detected enough vacuum pressure. You can test the function of the pump by putting your key into position 2, disconnect the electrical connecter on the switch. Jump out the two terminals on the wire pigtail. The pump should engage.

Motor sound after shutdown could be blower motor, ECM/TCM cooling fan, or rad fan.

Good explanation, thank you.
So the engine doesn’t produce enuf vacuum for the booster? Or is this a factor of a turbo engine and boost vs vacuum?

It is on both NA and turbo P2 cars And has more to do with CVVT. there are times when CVVT position destroys engine vacuum and the pump ensures that the brake booster has vacuum at all times

I thought it was Intake VVT that does this but I think jimmy corrected me on that

My non-turbo 2.4 has a vacuum pump too.

Edit: I suppose thats redundant information, i always read “NA” as North America :mrgreen:
