Having the seats out of the car makes it a whole lot easier !

This is my second time pulling a dash and it felt easier than last time. This one had one broken mount, that's 1 out of 8 so far 8)

Check really carefully. I thought that on my last dash repair, but it turned out all 3 out of 4 of the main mounts had hairline cracks in them even though only one was broken. Also the 2 lower mounts by the door were also cracked.

Well the old 'R' is now safely tucked up under some warm, clean dry sheets and sitting on it's 'slave' rims/tires for the winter. Battery tender also connected.

If the unpainted wall to the right of the storage area is cinder block it's an underground bunker  . At least there will be one Volvo left for survivors after the nukes  . Beautiful color the radiation will make it pop even more.

With all the treat of war these days, doesn't everyone have a concrete bunker under the house?? :o

The original owner of the house added to the back of the house which has 2 rooms up joining the main floor and the original 14 ft x 26 ft garage which you can walk into from the basement. Problem is the door is only just over 6ft high so you can't park any larger SUV in there like the 4Runner. When we downsized my only condition was there had to either be a large garage or room to build one. This had the original garage built into the ground at the back, hence the concrete walls. Due to 'complaints' from someone (we know who) the city said that old garage had to be partitioned and be called a 'storage' area and then the new shop/garage could be built. So the storage area is now a workshop for smaller jobs and storage for things like a car..........! :D

The original door is still there for the old garage as added security. I had planned to remove it but the 'boss' was more comfortable leaving it there and it gets closed every night.

This is the 'old' garage:

This has been a 50+ year dream for when I retired and now it is mostly in place. Still some fine tuning and sorting to go!

Good, so now I know who to call for interior work

Ah that's cool, so you built it onto the existing garage. I really like that setup!

Very Very nice! A larger garage is on of the reasons I'd like to move.

It was the only reason I agreed to move. In fairness our old house was way too big for the 2 of us, so downsizing made a lot of sense with retirement looming. Now that the garage is mostly complete (is any project ever complete?) I just hope the old body holds together long enough to actually use and enjoy the space!

As to building it on to the back of the original garage it made sense to be able to use it mostly for storage as most of the storage in the house was removed during renovations. Due to limitations of the plot, and me wanting to ensure the garage would be useful into old age, it has been designed to allow a wheel chair to be unloaded under cover in the garage, and be wheeled into the basement over a flat floor into the house and then by elevator to the upper floor! It makes the house mostly accessible even into fragile old age!

Just as importantly, I hope to now have enough room to store all the spare parts and tools so I can easily find them when needed. That will be a first!!
