Turbo stopped working 2001 V70 T5 Auto

now that I've digested most of Thanksgiving, it's back to the car. Disconnected the battery cable for 30 minutes. Reconnected and no codes. Car starts, but "hunts" at first warmup, then settles out to a nice idle around 750. I can't hear any hiss, like from a leaky hose. But the turbo still doesn't work. No check engine light, at least. I guess the two problems are linked. I am going to assume there is a loose hose somewhere, but I can seem to find it.. I hope to get the codes read today.. Ideas?

Still a 1238 code, so at least one problem solved. All the hoses fro the turbo control are in place and look pretty good. The control sensor, the one under the air intake snorkel, had a dry rotted end, so I clipped it off - that's the hose that has different size ends..
So I gather there are 3 sensors - the one on the air cooler, the pressure regulator, and the controller on the side of the air box.
A person with better ears than I have said they heard the turbo whine a little bit. But I sure don't feel the normal turbo kick..

I've never heard my turbo wind up either but the boost gauge shows boost and vacuum.

2001 v70T5s do not have a vac / boost gauge. I wish I had a test V/B gauge, though.

I'm trying to understand how those 3 sensors work together, in hopes of finding the one that's causing the problem. I know the turbo is spinning but there is less boost, so I would guess that one of the sensors is preventing the turbo from boosting as normal. I have checked the hoses connected to all of these sensors, and they are on tight and leak free. The one that is mounted onto the air box (boost regulator?) has hoses that are solid but dried out..

maybe a smoke test would shine a light , DIY smoke testers on youtube look simple enough.

I'm off to the parts yard to get the sensors - cheap enough and easy enough to R&R. If that doesn't fix it, then smoke test time. thanks.

This is getting rich - After the initial code check, then finding the loose clamp, then disconnecting the battery to wipe codes / check engine light, then a 9 hour Round trip, in which the turbo did not seems to work, a cruise control that did not work on one way but it did on the way back, now, after a 2 hour Round trip today, one the way there, the check engine light came on. But it was off on the way back. And the CC did not work on the way there, but did on the way back. And the turbo is barely working, but the engine runs great. I have my replacement sensors, and I plan to go over the hoses one more time, with the idea it could be a hose the only leaks under boost.
Ideas?

IPD sells a boost gauge for around $60.

I have a neighbor who smokes cigs so I may get him to come over and do a smoke test..

a cheap cigar , put some sand it a jar and stick the cigar in it.
