Did you see my note about the chance of a broken wire in the door harness?

Yes, I don't think that's it, since I can hear a clicking, in the dash, when I operate the switch.

Were multiple headlight styles used in 1999? I have a broken driver's side lens that I've intended to replace, and while looking at my options I thought maybe I'd just get a used assembly through ebay. However, I notice two different lenses and two different tops to the black plastic housings. Some lenses are almost perfectly clear with no lines, but most just have the standard DOT lines. What really confuses me is that some have the small and big gear to the outside on top of the housing.... mine does not have this, but a button looking thing where the small gear would be.

I don't think this is an E-code/DOT or OEM/aftermarket issue..... I believe all are OEM.

The oem ones have glass lenses with complex Fresnel lenses that are different left and right. There are about 5 aftermarket products out there and some don’t have those cool calibrated adjusters

Interesting. I'm going to have to look at my headlights closer. Maybe they're not original. I think I've seen Hella on the glass, Though.

Not all of mine have the fancy two-axis adjustment stuff, even the housings with Volvo part numbers. Some have the bubble level, some don't.
As the good Doctor points out in the referenced thread, the reflectors are...a bit delicate. Whether from old age or heat ends up being barstool conjecture, but a cracked lens is not good for the innards in any case. If you do a junkyard crawl pay more attention to the health of the reflector surface than branding on the lens. ( Hella is OEM.)
As mentioned in lots of threads a pair of C70 headlights with clear lenses is a good upgrade, hard to find in some places used, pricey new even from aftermarket vendors. The clear C70 lenses won't throw a good beam if mounted on the regular housings.
Robert sometimes has them on his website; I don't think he ever walks past a car in a J/Y without taking them to the counter.

Mine lack the level from what I've noticed. I was surprised and disappointed since my 850 has them, as did my old Saturn.

Yes, I've read that thread in the past, but before it was relevant to me, so not much of the info stuck. I've got the lens held together with packaging tape for now.

I was planning on buying through ebay, so hands on inspection won't be possible. I doubt the yards around here would even have a Volvo. The yard I've used only had one relevant Saturn, and I see them all the time. I do not see other Volvo's on the road around here, except for more recent production cars.

Oh, so that's what the clear ones are from!

I'll take a look at his website. I've watched plenty of his videos.

Looks like he doesn't have any at the moment but once he gets back to Ohio or on the road he's usually in a J/Y a couple times a week. If that's something you're thinking about either email him directly or text him, his cell is on the website. Put in an ask and he'll be on The Hunt. It's kind of what he does.
I know what you mean about lack of parts cars, there aren't any in southern DE at the moment, and I don't get to DC as often as I used to.
If you get stuck, an d you really just want to fix what you have, let us know here, I might have a decent lens you can have for postage.
