About 5 months ago I had a new (right) front control arm installed in my 850. Less than 10K miles later, it's bad again. I'm installing the next one myself. I can't imagine that this part going bad so quickly is common but, at the same time, is it entirely uncommon? I don't know if the part that was installed some months ago was OEM or AM. I don't want to be doing this again 6 months from now if I can help it.

Just stay away from ScanTech parts and they don't get tightened until the car is on the ground...tightening them while the car is up in the air results in early bushing damage.

+1 on what MIJ said although I do it a bit differently.
I put the frame on jack stands and then raise the hub up to the point where it is centered on the bottom door seam with a floor jack. That way I don't have to work under the car or try to fight my way around the wheel when I torque down the bolts on the frame mounts.
The best price that I have seen by far for OEM control arms is www.thevolvopartsclub.com . They get $86.66 each shipped free.
