The Million Mile Volvo !

Post by MrAl »

Hello there,

This is a Volvo that was driven a million miles. It's a 1987 but thought this was a good place to post it.

One thing i noticed is that the people who get very high mileage out of their cars usually do their own maintenance or at least most of it. Dont know the full story behind this car though.

I’ve been driving a Volvo long before anyone ever paid me to drive one.
That's probably because I've been driving one since 2015 and nobody has offered to pay me yet.
1998 v70, non turbo, FWD, base model, on the road from April 2nd, 2015 to July 26, 2023.

Just saw an article of another car in the UK I believe of an S80 with 720,000 miles on it! It's a diesel. It had a 10000 miles service ever 6 weeks!

Nice miles, but nothing like this... Weird how this car is in the rust belt...

Wisdom requires knowledge as a prerequisite, but knowledge can be developed due to a lack of wisdom.
In order to learn how to fix something, you must first learn how to break it.

The whole super high miles thing kinda looses it's meaning, for me, when I hear the car has had multiple engines and/or transmissions.

Yeah i was thinking that too. Its no longer the same car. The engine is a big part of the car if it is swapped out then a big part of the car is a different car. So you get an award essentially for swapping engines not for driving the same car for a very long distance. I mean, what does the car company say if they give you an award. "Hey here's your award for swapping out most of the car."
If you cut a car in half and weld half of another car to it you've got one half of one car driven 500k miles and another half of another car that was driven maybe only 100 miles. So we have to know the service history in order to completely understand the significance of the claim.
I think some claims are valid (Robert for example 400k) but there is no way to verify random raves on, of all places, the internet.
Big, big chuckle there :D
