Check Engine Light.......check your gas cap!

Post by Blacklab467 »

I've had a check engine light that I've been recreationally trying to extinguish for some time. Like most CEL's the car runs fine but it's annoying to have the light on all the time. I don't have VIDA so the only code I get on my cheapy scanner is a P0072, referencing a problem with the temp sensor on one of the mirrors.
The other day I was looking around while filling the car with gas and noticed this. The Gas Cap seal was missing a good chunk of rubber and the rest was weathered and cracked. I ordered a new one along with some other sundry items that I needed for the car when I got home. Replaced the part in question and cleared the CEL and alls well again. Hope this helps someone else in the future.........don't forget to check the simple stuff!

I had to buy a gas cap this week too. Emptied a jerry can into the tank and left the cap on the roof and drove away. Lol

Much of my time during the job is spent hauling things up and down the stairs to the basement or in and out of the storage shed, or running back downstairs when I realize I need something else,or taking a break from standing out in the sun,or using flashlights or work lamps when it gets dark.
