I'm replacing the alternator - you mean I do not have to drain to R&R?

No. Remove the fan, unbolt and squeeze the alternator to the driver side and lift it up there. Protect the radiator with a piece of cardboard.

even better- thanks.. Will I get much leakage from the power steering pump fitting?

Maybe '01 was different but I believe you may have to remove the A/C compressor bolts to get the alternator out also. My '03 was that way.

as long as I don't have to pull the AC comp.. I don't think I have to. I may have to move the engine computer box over to get a little more wiggle room. Fortunately, I have an enclosed garage

Alternator bottom bolts are shared with A/C compressor upper bolts. Need to slacken the lower A/C bolts.

Some. Get a box of silicone plugs: search "OPK12 Rubber Vacuum Cap Assortment" on amazon, these fit into both ends of disconnected high pressure line. You'll have almost no leaks, only in the moment when disconnecting the line from the pump.

Stuff the holes with paper towel and put into a plastic bag. It will leak, but very slow.
