Power steering fluid leaking out bellow

Power steering fluid leaking out bellow

Greetings all,
I hope this finds you all well, healthy, and in good spirits!

I have a 1998 V70 T5 that is almost road ready. I noticed a few months ago that power steering fluid was leaking out of the inner tie rod bellow on the driver's side. Any thoughts on what I might do to stop the leakage short of investing in a newer rack? The car has 148,XXX miles on it.

Appreciate your thoughts!

Driver side is apparently much harder to do than the passenger side. There are seals that can be replaced. There is an active thread on sources for racks. United and Detroit axle are reasonable cost

Unfortunately you're looking at a new rack. No real way around it. I've had decent luck with Lucas power steering stop leak though, if you're looking to just slow it down to hold you over until you are able to get it taken care of.

I noticed the rack on my '97 855 GLT started leaking about 10 years ago. The leak was about 25-50mL per week. I switched from regular ATF to "high mileage" ATF, currently using the inexpensive "SuperTech" brand from Walmart. That slowed the leakage down to less than 25 mL per month which is manageable. Still going OK on the original rack.
1997 855 GLT (Light Pressure Turbo) still going strong. Previous: 1986 240 GL rusted out in '06, 1985 Saab 900T rusted out in '95, 1975 Saab 99 rusted out in '95, 1973 Saab 99 rusted out in '94

Seal kits are available, but the rack has to be on the bench, and everything has to be squeaky clean going back together. Not a job for the UnBrave.

Not a job for the UnBrave.
She probably sets the highest standard for Brave of most anyone I know

Kally, I have a nasty rack that might get core credit, or might not. Detroit gives you a free shipping label to return the core so that’s free at least. I think they tie warranty to the core
