High pitched screeching sound?

Post by volvlife »

My 2007 XC70 is coming up on 100k miles soon and it's getting colder here in the northeast. Yesterday I was driving the car in the snow and I hear this really loud high pitched screeching noise coming from the front of the car (see attached video). I stopped the car and after remaining idle for a few seconds the sound went away. I continued driving and the sound happened to come on again after a few minutes, but very infrequently. Any idea what this could be?

Kind regards,
C

Sounds like possibly the blower motor. Common issue. Easy to diagnose, turn off the fan and see if it goes away.

Buy a TYC if you're cheap like prwood and myself.

Much of my time during the job is spent hauling things up and down the stairs to the basement or in and out of the storage shed, or running back downstairs when I realize I need something else,or taking a break from standing out in the sun,or using flashlights or work lamps when it gets dark.

Search for "rain squeal". Yours sounds like a classic case.

Also, if you leave the pavement, I'd suggest doing the next mod to the bracket:

Have you ever had the PCV system serviced? That can make a sound like this when it is getting blocked up.
'94 940 wagon, 220K miles- sold to a guy who then drove it to Oklahoma
'99 XC70 AWD, 210K miles- trans went
'04 XC70 AWD, 196K miles- still going strong
