Re: failing alternator or belt? 2001 V70T5

Thanks to all for support and advice - R&R done and car is back on the road. A few things -
I have a different tensioner pulley - the one that has a bolt to release tension - an open end wrench slipped into a piece of pipe did the job.

I had to move or remove:

Power steering pump - Get a rubber stopper to stop the pump from leaking fluid. I set the pump and reservoir on top of the motor, but my plug came loose and fluid went everywhere..
Lower intercooler hose
Upper radiator hose at the radiator.
That is all that needs to be taken out - I saw vids with mechanics draining the coolant, taking out the turbo crossover pipe, pulling the fan and shroud, and I was able to work without having to pull these parts.
The 2 lower AC pump mounting bolts are really hard to see but they have to be loosened a few turns

Now the PITA part - the dead alternator was not Bosch, and would not come out, so I had to take it apart in the car and remove it in pieces.. No fun, but it was held together with 4 easy to remove bolts. . While watching the vids, I noticed that when it came to removing installing the alternator, several cut at this stage, then came back in with the alternator out, or in. There is one vid, from the UK, that shows the mechanic turning it a certain way then wiggling it on place. Since the inlet neck or the radiator is plastic, I did not want to risk putting any pressure on it.. So, if the flat part (bottom) of the Alternator is turned towards the power steering mounting bracket, and the unit is tilted just so, and several words of incantation are spoken, the alternator will slip in, with minimum pressure on the inlet neck. Once in and the mount slipped in behind the AC pump, it fell into place and the rest was easy..

Again, thanks to all..
