Title pretty much sums up my question but ill give some detail into my situation, while trying to diagnose an issue with my idle dropping down to a near stall (or actually stalling in one case) or bouncing up to about 1k rpm i figured I'd unplug the MAF to see if it got better as ive had a similar situation with another v70 and unplugging it resolved the weird rpm behavior as a temporary fix. Unplugging it gave me a check engine light and an engine system service message on the dash which is understandable, plugging it back in hasn't made the light or the message go away even after going for a short trip around the block.
Will i need a scanner to clear these lights or does it take some time for the system to recognise the MAF is reconnected and back to normal before it clears the light, i dont own a scanner and taking the car to a shop puts me at risk of stalling out on the road so im hesitant to move it.

ELM 327 will connect the car to a smartphone, and is capable of reading erasing codes.

Some codes self clear but often need 40+ Drive cycles before the ECU gets happy. It’s faster to get a cheap scanner solution and clear them, you should own one regardless
