Well i do not know how to interpret it but i pulled the spark plugs on my wagon and found 2 of them to be slightly clearer of buildup then the three others. There was a slight amount of liquid at the bottom of cylinder 2 and less on cylinder 3. Cylinders 1,4,5 were very clean where i saw no carbon or soot deposits. Cylinder 2 and 3 were darker with some liquid coating them. I stuck a alcohol wipe on a teather down and noted no blue (got blue coolant in) on the wipe. I left it for a few minutes and the liquid had mostly evaporated from the cylinder. Startup was without issue.

I am going to change the injectors as a hail mary as 2 and 3 injectors seem to be dirtier on the exterior with more buildups on the orange case when compared to the remainders. I got a good rail on the crashed car which i will find time to swap before i move out about 100km from my indy and the spare parts.

I am not loosing coolant as fast as would be expected so i suspect its a very light breach if it is the head gasket.

Readings from my code scanner indicate the engine is trying to run lean -8% while still smelling richer. I got a spare o2 sensor which i need to free from the cut section of exhaust but i will get that swapped by my indy. The old o2 sensor seems to be growing through rust.

Will give a greater update later but hoping its a small issue. Roberts videos say you can run on a slightly blown head gasket however it is not advisable. If i can buy enough time to rebuild the head off the crashed engine and swap it then that will be the plan. Trying to stave off buying a new car to save a bit of change for housing down the line. Atleast it still drives nice.

Got some used Goodyear winters for the v70 on alloys. Looks a lot better and there is a lot more group. Described my issues to the Indy who does not suspect a head gasket issue given the symptoms or lack there of. He advised that a dealer may be useful for a light leak so I’ll keep that in the back of my mind as a plan. He recommended doing a whole engine as opposed to separating the parts as well. We cleaned the distributor cap and rotor as a residue built up and caused burning in the rotor. The car runs better now and feels better with the new tires. Will proceed with doing the fuel rail at some point in the future.

I read on the iPd website about dipsticks on P80 vehicles “sweating” due to a bad seal and causing a milky residue that can be mistaken for a head gasket leak. Are they worth it? I’m thinking of getting one for the Silver Bullet, which is parked in my parents’ driveway awaiting a new ETM. (I’d thought it blew a head gasket, but the new info gave me hope!)

In looking for options for fixing the ETM, I found a kit on eBay to update it to the contactless version, as well as used units for a fraction of the cost. Then I also thought about how I’ve occasionally spent much more looking for a cheap fix when it would’ve been more economical to do it right the first time. This seems like one of those examples.

The dipsticks can get chocolatey with bad seals but mostly with short runs and cold weather makes it worse as condensation forms in the engine and extremities as they cool, and if the engine does not run long enough the condensation does not get burnt off.

Robert Spinner thinks an oil filler cap seal that is past its shelf life can lead to that issue as well.

Why not just buy new o-rings for the dipstick? Save you some moneys.

The revised dipstick/tubes for the P80's have 2 o-rings on them, but I think they are the same as those with singles. They just seal and hold the dipstick in place better.

It doesn't take long for those o-rings and the cap seals to get "hard" and not seal well. I just swapped the one out on my T5 that I did the valve seals/cams on. It was only a couple years old and had started to seep a little bit.

We've seen the condensation a couple times on our cars. A couple longer drives up to temp help clear it up.

I may be wrong, but I recall the P80 'double O-rings' are now NLA from Volvo. However, the P2 version has the same O'rings.
