2006 V70.. windshield? Cowl drains?
Ok all.. MDK here goes.. I bought this one in May of last year. Somewhere in the middle of August a big rig passed me the opposite way and a rock from his tires hit my windshield and it took a chunk of glass out ..right in my field of vision. I took it to some guys and they replaced it with an aftermarket one. It's been a pretty dry summer and autumn here in the Ohio valley. Now when I go to the car wash or it rains the floor boards on both sides are wet. Today I pulled the cowl, wiper blades, pouring water down the sunroof drains.. not plugged. Pouring water down drain tubes for the cowl.. not plugged. It doesn't seem that there's any water coming through the fresh air intake or where the wiring harness goes through the firewall... What else should I check.. I'm suspicious of the windshield but, I don't want to make a false diagnosis..

I would agree that they did a crap job of sealing the windshield. Depending on where you live and the temperature, I would use a garden hose set low on pressure and try running it around the windshield seal and see where the water runs in.

Hey all.. I think I found the source of my leak.. it was mainly the passenger side carpet.. soaked. After a re examination, I blew out all drains, sunroof, blower motor line and a/c condensate line. I pulled the cowl (wipers) rolled all the windows up and ran 2-5gallon buckets of water on top of the sunroof slowly. When I lifted up the cowl it was coming through the fan thing. I cleaned the drain tubes, cleaned the black plastic cover and gasket and sealed up the cover with silicone. I'm pretty sure that I got it.. MDK

I don't know why some pictures are upside down.. I rigged up some hoses and used a garden pump sprayer... smaller, smaller, smaller.. to get an air tight seal to blow all the lines out

There's a plastic strip at the bottom edge of the window. Cowl slides into that piece of plastic. Water finds its way around gaps in that combo and ends up running down the open vent.
XC90 has some sort of a cover on top of the vent, maybe you could do something similar.
My XC70 has a similar issue. I just leave it in air recirculation mode while parked, it seals well enough.

Hey all.. so, I took it back to the guys who originally replaced the windshield.. a little hostile.. but they went through the check list. It rained pretty hard here yesterday and the floorboard was soaked. They added some butyl to the corner of the glass and on the way home it looks like it quit leaking.. I hope. I appreciate your post VTL and Scott 850 .. I'm going to look into what VTL was saying.... MDK over and out.

Well hopefully that has fixed it. I can't believe the issue is due to design although not stupid enough to say it may not contribute to it. I believe your maintenance and the windshield fix should have got it. Although my one rider to that is that the plastic cabin filter ring has sealant in it. I'm assuming you did that as an additional fix. If it was done like that originally or someone had added it before it may still be an issue. Om P80's that part does not use a sealer, but then it does have a raised lip to sit on.
