I think the 2000 year they started changes toward the P2, but saying that the P2 has a completely different shifter. Perhaps the change was to standardise for the shifter to cover the 5 speed auto installed in some models that year.

Amazing detective work and thanks for letting us know.

I just browsed google for pics, and it appears you are correct.

All the 2000 shifters are the same, but the indicator in the top trim panel is laid out differently, but with the same 7 positions.

You hit the nail on the head. Just standardizing equipment between the different trans’s available.

As they say, " a broken clock is right twice a day!"

Abscate is right when he called the 99-00 years the bastard years, but it all started around 97 in Canada and Europe with the 850 AWD and constant changes on the AWD cars yearly. FWD's came more challenging in 99-00 years.

Btw, just want to mention how amazing the 302mm brake upgrade is. Was time for brakes anyway, so I decided to go the OEM+ route.

Found a set of new ATE slotted rotors from a fellow Volvo owner cheap, and then sourced some Akebono ceramic pads and Adaptive 1 calipers/brackets from NAPA of all places.

Was 120ish+ shipping for just rebuilt brackets online, and 2-3 wks shipping, or 190 for rebuilt calipers and NEW brackets and I could have them the next day.

Anyway, even tho it cost more than it could have were I not in a hurry, the upgrade is great.

I’m not sure why all these later P80s didn’t come standard with 302s.

Btw, read from MULTIPLE sources that Pleiad wheels do NOT fit over 302s.

Well, I can say for certain that is NOT the case. The Pleiads and 302s play together just fine. Best part is, those wheels are FULL of brake rotor now.

You know your brakes are small when they still look small behind a 16” wheel.

Sounds like a nice tweak.
Longer brake lines required?
And what's the NAPA PN?

That is also what I did when I replaced the rotors and found that my caliper brackets were badly worn. I bought NAPA reconditioned sets with the calipers and returned my originals with a pair of bad inventory calipers. Way cheaper than trying to import a pair form IPD or FCP. Brackets are fitted and calipers are in stock in the stash!

And on top of that, the calipers and brackets came painted too!

I DID install new hoses too, but I’m not convinced they are the right ones for the 302mm setup.

I’ll have to dig out receipt or boxes for part numbers tho. I’ll report back.

FWIW, you're probably looking for TP3943202.
The only copies that I've come across have been
scanned to PDF by someone with no interest in
keeping the pages in order... Fun!
Just under 60 MB, if you can track down the
version that I'm referring to.

I haven't searched very thoroughly, but
does VCNA even offer these TPs for sale?
