Bougicord or After maket leads

Post by buster850 »

Hi again and thanks for helping.
I need to replace the ignition leads on my 1994 850 B5252S 10 valve. Reading the forum there are many posts stating that ONLY Bougicord leads should be used.
Is this an actual proven fact? Can a decent aftermarket lead be used instead?
If so what brands are recommended?
I live in Australia and there are a few on Ebay here like these called " Standard Europe " $121

OR THESE

"The Eagles" Silicone Core Full set $142

Bosch leads are also available. Thoughts ?

How important are OEM leads really ?

Regards, Buster

Bougicord only.

If you must go with aftermarket...go with Bosch or NGK.

They will not last and perform like Bougicord...but they will last for a while.

+ 1 on misha's recommendations. I have a friend who's 98 V70 is running on NGK and has been for about 40,000km and 5 years.

I agree with misha on Bougicord preference or Bosh. The factory Bougicord installed by Volvo last nearly forever. Last December the original equipment dated 1991 Bougicord came off my 1991 740 Turbo at around 198K. They never failed. Replacement due to a top broke off of the front sparkplug by a detailer. The plug top was still in the wire so my local shop replaced them with aftermarket equipment. I live in a state with only one Volvo dealership over 200 miles away and Volvo cars are extremely rare. So to get a product that cost more upfront, but lasts double, triple, or even quadruple the competition seems like the best option for the long-term. If your car is in it's final years, I'd go with the cheapest option. June

I spoke to my auto supplier they can not get Bougicord anymore in Australia but they have ones made in the USA called Standard European 7mm for $120 which is a good price, even Bosch and NGK here want between $220 and $350 si Iam thinking of trying the Standard European, usually American made gear is of a good standard and its a low cost risk, I dont mind if they fail after a few years Ill be in a beter financial situation . Ultimately I believe you get what you pay for.
Many thanks and regards, Buster

If you pay shipping, from the US, I'll send you the Bougicord wires. I accidentally got a 10 valve set from FCP. They were mis-labeled, so it was neither my mistake, nor FCP's. FCP didn't want them back, and just sent me the proper 20 valve wires. I'll never use them for anything, so if you want them, they're yours.

The aftermarket wires are working on my 740 without issue thus far. I do plan on getting genuine Volvo from my dealership on my next trip to Florida. June

I have used this company for a 95 Plymouth Grand Voyager V6. Good reading even you don't purchase from them.
