2012 S60 Windscreen (AKA: Windshield) leak

Post by cuhfs »

Getting ready to discuss with the dealer. Why would a windshield leak, but for - a defective seal. I am told that this is not a recall or warranty item per se, yet it seems to me that Volvo should have to cover the repair for this defect. All over the internet this is a problem found with various volvo models.

Except for rocks hitting windshield why should a 10 year old windshield be replaced?

A leak of water from windshield detaching from the car and needing to be replaced or resealed should be covered by volvo inn my opinion.

Anyone here on MVS go thru this before with Volvo? Should we be reporting these windshield defects here?

https://www.nhtsa.gov/report-a-safety-problem
to persuade the defect be covered by Volvo?

Certainly a loose or improperly secured windshield effects structural and safety.
I would not consider a windshield to be a maintenance and replacement item like brakes, battery, and oil ... to be a wear item owner replaces every 5,000 miles or 10 years.

Update -
Volvo service informed me that Windshield SEAL is considered a maintenance item. Just like seals around doors and like tires rubber etc... it drys... REALLY??

.
You are correct that many including the C30's had poor / defective adhesion with the windshields. Some have had success with removal and new adhesive while others required a brand new windshield.

Many manufacturers have duped / reeducated the public in general and gotten away with lying about new standards or practices and new science such as coolant evaporates so requires topping off.

I have seen vehicles from the 80s still have their original seal. I have also seen many leaking cars from the 80s, not from 2012 for sure.

Dealer resealed the windshield at a cost of $300 and told me the good news was THEY did not break the glass, so it did not cost ME $800 for them to do the repair,

I think it depends on your relationship with your dealership. My 2004 S80 T6 had it's windshield removed and put back due to a leak that caused annoying wind noise as it was the lower corner driver side A-pilliar. I was not charged, and no paperwork was given to me afterwards. My car was approximately 12 years old. When the original windshield was replaced in 2020 the lower corner had a rust area from the leak years earlier FYI. It had to be repaired at my expense before the new windshield was installed. June
