What did you do to your P2 Volvo today?

XC90 but a P2 nonetheless. Finally had the car long enough to pull the front floormats and inspect the aftermath of sunroof drain issue the previous owner let go. Had to run a heater on the foam overnight to thaw and dry. Forgot to snap an after picture...a coat of corroseal did a nice job sealing up the floor. Thankfully the passenger side (including yaw sensor) was dry as a bone.

Fortunately just surface rust. These XC90s have the unique opportunity to rust from the inside to out!

Big issue is once the moisture is down there the foam is so thick and formed to the body there is no way to dry unless you pull the carpets.

When I bought it the a-pillars were pretty bad (now replaced) so I knew I was taking a risk. So far other than replacing the a-pillar and sunroof drain hose only other problem was a connector I needed to wire around.

Replaced all 5 coils with new Bosch units and Volvo OEM spark plugs and got rid of my misfire. I’ll save the 4 good ones for spares. Also changed the oil filler cap seal. PCV system overhaul next when I have some time now that I have all the parts for it.

MDK here. So, I decided to check my spark plugs. I put new ones in about 7 months ago ( I barely got the old ones out) anyway.. I found this on #4 coil wiring assy. Someone had heat shrinked all 3 wires together. I separated them and re wrapped em. Dumped the oil, new 5w30 plus moly lube and filter..

Was that causing a misfire?

Today I figured out how to completely disable the traction control system, while retaining abs function. I’m finally able to have fun on the twisty snowy roads!

2008 S60 got some attention today. Was a tad slow to start and some stumbles on starting recently. Decided to replace the starter given it has 150k miles and with an online code was only $135 at Carquest for a lifetime warranty starter. Pretty easy access when you pull the intake pipe and spin the air box out of the way. Starts much better now.

While I was there replaced a bunch of brittle conduit wrap on harnesses to keep them out of harms way. Then to prevent any starting issues did the steering lock-ectomy to remove the failure prone steering lock mechanism. Now onto cleanup of the newly acquired 2008 C70…
