Gear selector manual mode overly light

Post by dudlo »

I have a new-to-me 2004 V70 (T5 with auto trans) with some 233,000 miles. I have a _mechanical_ problem with the gear selector: The movement to manual mode is very light - there is almost no resistance. I tend to rest my hand on the gear selector, and I found myself revving to 6000rpm on 1st gear too many times.

Do you have some links or pointers on fixing it? I found some mention at https://www.matthewsvolvosite.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=41970 that talks about a spring requiring 3 hours of labor. I also found video at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UTWMPYT6ImA that pulled the whole shifter box. I am fishing for a more specific instructions, possibly the part number for the spring.

Thank you,
dudlo

Need to remove the central console, which is like 6 torx screws, I think? Not too bad.
