Four-c shocks and struts

Post by CheapAssGus »

Hello to the collective,

I'm reaching out to see if anyone has come up with a reasonable solution for replacing the four-c shocks and struts on a 2010 XC70. I'm looking to remove the system and replace with normal Bilsteins or something similar. The car has 286,000 kms now. The car still runs well enough and I still like it, but not enough to spring the 5k or what ever it costs to replace with factory parts.

I have searched here and well, just about everywhere and come up short. I have read on older models where guys have cut out the solenoids and wired them up so they could remain plugged in. Seems a little suspect to me. I have heard of no such "fixes" on a P3.

I have read where the D5T5 guys may have a solution to "remove" the system through their VDASH program but I don't really understand the system and support is not really offered unless you are one of their dealers, it looks like.

Has anyone else been down this road or heard of anyone else who has?

Many Thanks,
Guy

I am no expert in this area, but over in VW/Audi forums replacing factory dynamic ride suspension is common and they have canceler kits designed not to trigger error messages. https://neuspeed.com/en-ca/products/isw ... nceler-kit
The canceller kit is designed to fool the ECU to think it is connected to a solenoid. So, the idea of connecting to old solenoid is worth further look.

Enter your vehicle here and compare the product and pricing. I don't have a Volvo but a 2008 LR2 with the volvo si6 and I got my replacements from them. They are very responsive to any contact and the price shipped was very good when I purchased my replacement shocks.

Essex Distributors and there is a 10% code discount. An FYI, I have no affiliation with the company other than they are Canadian.

That is interesting. I wonder if the canceler kit is just a resistor in a fancy container?

Essex has no listing for the XC70. May be worth a call. The problem isn't so much in actually physically replacing the shocks/struts, it's keeping the error lights out in the dash and keeping the active headlights working. I've never found a 4c replacement except at the dealer and they were almost $1000.00 each. At that rate the car is basically mechanically totaled.
