New S80 T6 Turbo owner
Hey all...I just bought a 2002 S80 T6 Turbo Executive, 95K on the odo Drives like a dream and I love it! I'm reading a lot online about tweaks/electrical problems. Overall....how's the realiability on the S80? What problems should I expect in being a Volvo owner? Just looking for some seasoned opinions on the vehicle. I love the feel and look of the car and am excited to own it.

Welcome to MVS. If you're not having any of the electrical issues count yourself lucky. Of course I'm sure there are a lot of S80's that never have these issue. If I knew more about your car I would comment....but none-the-less, it's nice to have you aboard here.

The only serious problem I've had was a busted A/C high pressure hose and a complete brake job....Both of these were done by the dealer., one under warranty and one not.....Dealer service can get quite expensive...
I did purchase it thru a large Ford Dealer here and one of the perks was lube/oil/filter and tire rotation for as long as I own the vehicle every 5000 miles.....Not too bad considering its takes 7.5 qts of oil to refill and oil filters can be in the $12 dollar range..Most problems I've read about thru this forum the past 2 years concerning S80's mostly deal with the 1999/00 and 01 models..A bigger part was electrical...the 02's and newer seem to be O.K.
The car is a blast to drive, especially when you put your foot into it, although w/the price of fuel., this does'nt happen to often now-a-days..
You can expect good gas mileage., I usually average 21/23 in town and on the interstates 28/29 mpg...You actually do get better mileage using 91 octane and I've never had a problem with heating..In this part of the SW where I reside, temps reach 105 to 112 daily during June (The hottest month)...Hope you enjoy your S80....

I do not use the oil filter from K&N, only Mann or Volvo oil filters. I like the K&N air filter...it allows more air through and for this I feel a little bit better response on the throttle. I haven't noticed any mpg gains. I also think it's economical, especially with the price of genuine Volvo air filters. Just don't over-oil it and only oil it on the side away from the MAF sensor or top of the air box. Hope this helps.
