2013 C30 Transmission Fluid Change Capacity

Post by BlackThunder »

Hi everyone, I think I am going to change my transmission fluid. I'll probably just drain out whatever comes out and add until full - just like an oil change, right?

Does anyone know how many quarts I should order? 2, 4? Also, tube size recommendations to get the ATF down to the dipstick hole?

I was going to get AISIN fluid from FCP Euro.

Also, FCP Euro lists gaskets that I might need. Do I need them?

Thank you.

Late reply but for the Aisin transmissions it is typically 3.5-4.5 quarts if you are doing a drain and fill. I would measure what comes out then put the same in as a baseline before checking the dipstick buried on the front of the transmission.

Edited to 3.5-4.5.

Great! Thank you. I haven't done it yet. I have to work outside and it's still too cold to do it.

Should I drain and flush or just drain and refill it? I feel like a mechanic once told me that if you flush it there can be more issues in the future so it's better to just drain it and refill it.

Does that sound like good advice? I've never done it before :-)

Also, is this basically like changing engine oil? That similar of a process?

Thanks.

Strong opinions on both sides for drain and fill vs flush. General consensus is drain/fill of fluid is dark brown, flush if a tinge of red, and if burnt smell—leave alone. Logic being if dark/burnt new too slippery fluid could cause clutches in trans to slip.

That said I’ve done a cooler return flush on an 02 S60 and 05 S40, both at 150k. The S40 shifted a little funky at first but settled into smooth shifting. Both took about 3 gallons of Valvoline Maxlife ATF before the fluid came through clean.

With your situation the drain and fill may be easiest, same as oil change the toughest part is getting a funnel and/or hose to the trans dipstick hole. Flush is a little more involved, one video here:

Great! I'll check it out. Thank you!

I'll have to wait until it's warmer to do the job :-)

Just to update this thread. Did a drain and fill on my 08 C70 T5 (FWD) tonight and was surprised to drain out 4.5qts. Luckily had two FCP trans fluid change kits (8qts) of Aisin.

Seemed strange as in past my P2s typically had 3.5qts come out on a drain and fill.
