I am adding this information as I found this subject confusing (not uncommon for me!!)
While I was at the junkyard last week I pulled the CVVT Exhaust side cam solenoid (the intake had been removed) from a 2004 C70 convertible. I cleaned the part today to put into the 'stash' and noticed the part number looked strange. Even though it is a Volvo part the number on it was 867-0422. Googling that it comes up on Ebay as part numbers 8670422 or 36002686.
Now according to some web-pages this should fit my 00 R but when I look at it the part numbers don't align. The part numbers for the 1999-2000 P80's use the 31251211 (updated part number) or Supersession(s): 1275579; 36002695
Fortunately I have 3 of those already, so the junkyard one from last week (8670422) fits our 06 P2 XC70 at least so worth keeping for that.
Hope this helps those out there pulling parts just to make sure you check the alignment with your own cars.
Neil.

I believe, but don't quote me on this, that there is at least two different part numbers possible. I believe one has what I like to call the coil with extension and thus is longer, and a shorter one like that used on my 99 XC. I am guessing but unsure that the valving assemblies are likely different OR the solenoid throw/duty cycle/response time is different...
