Any clever idea to make the seat access to the trunk lockable?

Post by wrybread »

I keep a lot of valuables in the trunk of my '98 S70, and love the lockable trunk feature (the extra turn of the key so you can't open the trunk by pressing trunk open button), but there's still access through the rear seats...

I'd like to make them lockable somehow, while still being able to use that access occasionally. Doesn't have to withstand a super determined attack, but just enough to thwart your average crackhead. I'm thinking something to disable and re-enable the existing latch lock. Or maybe some clever dead bolt-y system.

Any ideas by chance?

A couple of deadbolts like on a garden gate? Drill a hole into the parcel shelf large enough for the bolt shaft to lock into and there you go.

Looking from inside trunk there are two red switches at each latch mechanism. Flip them and the bi-fold seats will not fold down. The rear armrest access hatch is still a problem though.

A flat piece of metal and machine screws from the back should take care of it permanently. The problem is if you ever lose you keys or have a dead battery you'll want the arm rest to open so you can get a stick to reach the truck pull to open it up. When I worked in the Bayview Hunters Point area near the 49'er ball park, Candle Stick back then, we have to open our ash trays or else the windows could be smashed looking for change.

Can be larger or smaller in size depending on where the attachment point is on the arm rest and seat back?
