cylinder 5 cuts out when it gets warm

Post by papascrappy »

Does anyone have an idea what would cause a single cylinder to misfire only once it gets warm? When I first start the car, it runs great, but after 10 or so minutes number 5 cylinder starts cutting out. I have changed the plug and the coil. Had a water leak a few weeks back, and the steering wheel lock gave me trouble, but that is all the problems I have had.

Coils can fail when they get hot. Do you have coil 5 fault code?
Try swapping coil 5 to another cylinder and see if the fault moves.

SORRY! I did not read your post well before making comments. Check coil feed wires and grounds for good contact. Is the coil boot cut or coil to plug contact bad?

Can you post a picture of the sparkplug that you removed?

It is possible that you have an injector problem.

You didn't say which engine but I will assume that a 2008 V70 is the 3.2 6 Cylinder.

What is the fuel trim for bank 2 (LTFT and STFT)?

Other things to check

1. Check the wiring to the ignition coil for #5 (does the latch work?)

2. Check the PCV to see if it is broken (engine at idle remove the oil fill cap and you should have a very slight vacuum)

3. Check the wiring for the #5 injector (does the latch work?)

Good luck

Paul
