On the talk of CVs.... is it still pretty much agreed upon that the squarish C-clip on aftermarket units is what causes them to be such a bear to remove? and is it recommended to swap the original circular c-clip from oem in their place?

Much of my time during the job is spent hauling things up and down the stairs to the basement or in and out of the storage shed, or running back downstairs when I realize I need something else,or taking a break from standing out in the sun,or using flashlights or work lamps when it gets dark.

On mine the aftermarket shaft c-clip looked pretty similar to stock. Went in with a good shove, no hammering needed.
Now the OEM one seemed to take a lot more levering with two pry bars to get out…a bit harder than I recall it being on my kids 02 S60. Much prefer the passenger side where the bearing carrier holds it in place.

Installed a new serpentine belt and tensioner on my 2006 V70 2.4. Nice and easy job. Removed the wheel for better access to the lower tensioner bolt.

4 below zero (F!) here, roaring wind all night, Betty the Volvo won’t start. Boosted it, took my wife to work in case it won’t start again, got home, plugged it in again. It is painful out there, blows right though you.
That’s two times below zero it wouldn’t start, maybe time to spring for a new battery (right as it warms up.)
Hood struts are too cold, wind blew it down on top of the charger. Nothing shorted out.

Well, I charged it all day, went to pick up my wife, and swung by Batteries Plus to pick up a new one. Not worth the worry. 730 CCA, same as the one I had, which was 5 years old. They have an on-line promo code to get yourself 20% off. Put it in under the floor in the wind. Only dropped the cold ratchet handle onto the ground post once - very brief sparks and bad words.

Positively Tropical! Currently -40 C/F here today. Then -2C tomorrow!!?
The wind is the part I hate. Fitting a battery in the cold is not fun, especially with a bad shoulder/arm. I tried doing that to move my R into the new garage after charging it. Managed to short both terminals which led to issues with the lights and CEM. Got is resolved eventually after a lot of time, help and talking to the car in stern words!
Neil.

40...seriously?? Ow. Yeah, the wind goes right through your hat.
I would move back to Scotland for the pleasant weather.
