In reply to mtagoon, I have spoken at length to Ilexa and they do not do software suitable for a European spec Volvo before year 1999 i.e. V70. I have obtained a lead and code reader handset and pod from ebay which is made by Sykes Pickavant but haven't had the courage to plug it in. Us poor old Europeans trailing behind them Yankees again! No offence to you guys!
Which flavour of OBD-2 signal on 96 850 wagon?

Well, we'll definitely see if it works or not: this device costs near to nothing to build. I already have vol-fcr (but no compatible hardware so far), so I'll build one and experiment.
Which device from Sykes Pickavant do you own? Would be interested by your experience with it.

I can use Jeff's circuit + Vol-FCR to Reset Service Light, Reset/Clear DTC (ABS), Clear SRS DTC's and other ECU's for my 854 1996. .... Confirm!!!russell2419 wrote:mtagoon wrote:Try...

Another Flash Code Circuit/ Simple OBD2 Code Reader : http://www.volvoclubthailand.com/cgi-bi ... 1213125089
The content of this post is erroneous! Device works (see below)!
I built the device, and double checked the circuit to ensure there was no mistake/short/omission.
I tested it with an older full version of vol-fcr (1.3.6), it didn't work ("Check interface" each time I tried to get any communication with the car).
I then tested it with the latest demo version (for serial interface) from Ilexa. It didn't work any better.
So, this hardware (http://www.planetfall.com/~jeff/obdii/) + software (vol-fcr) combination does not work on my Belgian 97' 2.5i 10v wagon...

JFYI, I did not etch a PCB, but built the device on a piece of veroboard, following the schematic.
Anyway, I checked again the whole thing. And I'm ashamed to admit I've messed up with the transistors
. The pins numbering between my transistors' datasheet and those on the schematic do not match, and I got confused. So I soldered them the wrong may (pins 1 <=> 3 are swapped). Ooops!
The rest seems to be OK. I'll replace T1 & T2 and re-test ASAP!
Thanks a lot for asking to recheck those parts!

Well, I did replace the transistors and... it works! I was just able to reset my "Service" dashboard light, and communicate with ABS, immobilizer and SRS modules (I do not have power seats, otherwise I'm sure I would have been able to deal with them...)
So, the hardware + software combination described by mtagoon does work on European spec cars, despite ilexa's claims to russel2419 that it won't!
Thanks again mtagoon!
