Has your car been in an accident? I suppose plastic could get old, but i think the window regulator is metal, isnt it? I didnt think that could crack.

I've seen things like window regulators crack, often it's with aftermarket parts that use cheaper metal. They actually deal with a lot of flex, and that can fatigue the metal over time and cause it to crack and bend.

Hi,

How do you get under the car?
I’ve been driving a Volvo long before anyone ever paid me to drive one.
That's probably because I've been driving one since 2015 and nobody has offered to pay me yet.

Hi,

How do you get under the car?
I was in my uncles heated garage, so I used a floor jack, and a small jack stand on the passenger side.... at the risk of some old oil running to the driver's side in the pan. I put the floor jack behind the wheel, where the subframe bolts to the body, and the jack stand under the subframe.

If I had been home in the driveway (too cold and wet) I would have used my plastic ramps, and driven the car up.

Hi,

How do you get under the car?
.
If you use a pump such as the one June recommended or a manual extractor you won't need to remove the plug. Have been doing this since mid 2019. The amount of oil residue is negligible (have pulled plugs to confirm) considering there was a pan full of dirty oil and it's going to be that dirty again in a couple thousand miles.

As for the filter, lift the car slightly with a floor or OE jack and a stand under the front sub frame. You don't need to fully go under. Some card board and a plastic bag for the filter or filter housing. After loosing the filter put the plastic bag over the filter and then the rubber band should slip over the top of the bag / filter when turning to remove. I didn't think of the rubber band till after taking the photo below. Should be able to catch a large amount of oil besides not getting it all over your glove or card board.
.

Hi,

Have you seen how the oil filter is buried in the 1998 v70? I can find a pic.
I'd be lucky to get a bag around it.
I dont like going under vehicles anymore though this car is way too heavy.

You’d be terrified by an XC90 if you think these are heavy!

Seriously, I even get nervous jacking that thing up. It’s very awkward to lift.

Once you loosen it, just before it starts to drip slip a bag over it and move the rubber band all the way to the top of the thin grocery bag before spinning. The S70 changed to the cartridge, not sure when in the later models and that does not spin freely as the gasket is in contact with the threads all the way down.

That baggie and rubber band trick is brilliant.

Duly appropriated.
