1995 850 base cat pipe and muffler redo

Just to let anyone know, I did a replacement cat pipe and muffler pipe redo from the manifold to the rear bumper. I used aftermarket pipes, a Davico direct fit Cat pipe, new gasket at manifold, muffler pipe which was three separate sections with butt type clamps. I used 2 formed oval flange clamps to secure the cat pipe to the muffler pipe instead of that standard two cup type volvo clamp. This was recommended by a comment on the FCP Groton parts site and it got it tight with no leak. A friend with a lift put it on no problems. I also got 2 new O2 sensors. Car runs and sounds good, but not as quiet as my 2000 S70. Had to get the tailpipe extension tip for the end. We painted with high heat paint hoping it will last. Parts were around $700, 95 850 base.

Thanks for the info. Where you live I'm sure pipes don't last long. I remember the days back in Scotland where our 240 muffler pipes sometimes would not last 2 winters!

Let us know how it holds up. I tried painting my muffler system with paint but it did not last.

Hi Scot, I live in NW CT where the roads are heavily treated with salt-mag. or whatever that rots metal in no time. The muffler section of pipe was maybe 3 years old and was showing signs of rust on the weld points. The rear pipe exhaust extension part already had holes in it.

I know it is bad over there. Here used to be not too bad until they started to use de-icing agent (liquid death) about 6-7 years ago. Now we are also getting really bad for corrosion.
