Hello,

So I have installed VIDA, 2014d patch. All connected to the vehicle with lights working on DICE

This is what I'm getting when I connect to this 2007 XC70

On DICE test area Everything checks out except interface test says self diagnostic connector is not allowed

Once I put in the vehicle info I get a red box that says getCommToolSettingsObject(...),DiagnosticAllowed is not a function. I'm thinking this might have something to do when I first ran VIDA. I mistakenly hit "Use recommended settings. How would i change that even if that is not my issue. Or does it matter

However, I ran into the same problem as you. After entering the VIN, I chose the Transmission type and Body style and pressed OK. I get the same popup message as you, localhost says "getCommToolSettingsObject(...).DiagnosticAllowed is not a function"

The fix is easy:
At the VIDA login page, before you enter admin or digit. Click the IE Tab icon next to the URL bar. If you don't have the icon, click the jigsaw puzzle icon and your extensions will be available. You MUST have IE Tab extension installed for this to work. This will reload the VIDA page using the IE rendering engine. Now, I no longer get the popup message and everything works.

I'm not sure why the rear strut tower would've been tampered with during an alignment. There would be no reason for a technician to mess with it. The rear suspension arm stay has an eccentric bolt that is adjustable, but that's the only rear alignment adjustment that can be done on this vehicle.

The rusty, threaded rod is the strut mount rod, though that may not be the technical name. The counter stay nut with the T-40 should be in the 50-80 NM range.

Please tell me you have a spring compressor to complete the job, right?. It's not easy, installation can be very difficult. Very tight space. Hard for experienced techs to handle for the first time. One tip I have if you're doing this job on your own, is to hook a ratchet strap to each control arm, tighten the strap as much as possible, and that'll bring them down for easier installation.

Regarding the "support plate," I'd say yes replace it. Replace all the hardware if the strut had been left loose. Make sure you know the correct placement of the hardware for installation. As for the part (W0133-1891457), I've never seen one need to be replaced. Unless its bent, it's fine.

Your tightening specs are as follows-


M5 - 5 NM
M6 - 10 NM
M7- 17 NM
M8 - 24 NM
M10 - 50 NM
M12 - 80 NM
M14 - 130 NM

Whatever grade the nut/bolt/screw has stamped on it, torque it to the above specs. Some fasteners require additional angle torque, but the fasteners you're dealing with don't.

I'm getting the same problem - same error. And the USB com light only lights for a second when I plug the dongle into the USB port. Then it goes out. No Diagnostics available - tab is grayed out. The USB interface does show up in Device Manager as: DiCE Hardware. The power and Vehicle Interface Status lights do blink. But again, the COM light doesn't light up on the dongle when it's plugged into the laptop.

I'm using an old Windows 7 laptop and am using IE9 browser. So there's no IE tab extension available (and I assume, not needed since it's actually IE).

Any other ideas? The last time I used this device was about 3 years ago, and it worked then to clear the airbag light. Now it's not working.

Using which update is the most complete thing? I don't want to spend too much time on this even though I've checked the specs before.

Windows 10 just updated MS Edge and made it the default browser. I set Internet Explorer back as the default browser but MS Edge still opens up VIDA. I tried your hint of opening the jigsaw icon and chose "Open in IE" but no luck.

Any more suggestions to get VIDA to open in IE instead of EDGE?

In the C:\VIDA folder I found this file that was updated last week. It's called 'commToolInformation'

I tried restoring to default but it gave no options. Can this file be edited to fix the error?
