740 GLE Wagon 1986
740 GLE Wagon 1986
I’m going to college this year and need a car (specifically an old Volvo, I love them). I found this 740 GLE Wagon with a beautiful oxblood red interior. I wanted to know if this car is a go or no go, as it has one issue. Oil is leaking and bubbling from one of the spark plugs. Spark plugs have already replaced and are brand new. I had someone look at it, and was told it could be minimal or it could be a deal breaker. Anybody know what the issue is? Thanks so much for the help!

From the pic, it doesn't look like oil is running down from the valve cover/cam cover gasket, which would be the most minor reason.
Others with more experience particularly on these motors might want to chime in, but I'd say worn valve guide is probably the next "best" problem (meaning least work to fix). But beyond that you might be looking at bad rings or even a cracked piston.
I think I'd pass unless you can isolate an easy fix... or you're going to school for your ASE.
