Aren’t the soft lines cheap enough to just take them off with the hard line brake job?

Neil.
Luckily on the passenger side they leave you a little bit of wiggle room in the hard line to make a new flare, but seeing that the hard line runs behind the gas tank, over the subframe, scares me for any future use of a hacksaw to unscrew a flare nut. The Y-shaped union on the drivers side was nice to see, except bending that short piece of line to the perfect angles to turn 7/8ths of a semicircle, down to the level of the bracket for the soft hose, with 2 inches of space that needs to hold the new flare nut and room for the flare tool, while having to constantly check that everything is still lined up.... If that brake line was available from the dealer, I'd gladly pay $40 for a $5 part to never do that again, but I don't even see it listed on the Volvo parts website.
bmdubya1198 wrote: 26 Mar 2023, 23:02 I was able to use them on an AWD P80 rear brake line, but I removed that bracket just ahead of the rear wheel. It makes it a little easier. It looks like that bracket is supporting the subframe, but it's not.
That probably wouldn't be a bad investment! Most cheaper line wrenches don't seem to fit very well on these soft little brake line fittings.
Yeah, I took all three bolts out of that subframe trailing arm, which needs a bit of prying and a jack to line back up, but at least it gave me a chance to spray some rust-reformer between that cast piece and the body. So you dropped that bracket/jack point to allow the vise-grip to spin where it would have previously hit the body?

I thought the Quinn flare nut wrenches would be better than Pittsburgh, but they seem too soft and just expand and slip over the nut if you try to give it a good turn.

Yup, once I dropped that bracket, I was able to move the line far enough down to turn the pliers on the nut. This was on a friend's '99 V70R, I had to repair the line for him on the driver side, and it was tight, but we got it done.

Over the weekend I manual swapped my 96R and installed a Quaife and an ECU with a good tune.
Good lord, that thing is scary now ...

I'm glad the AW50-42 gave up on me a year ago or I probably would have never swapped it.

Fun! I'd love a Quaife in mine, but I don't plan on pulling the M56 back out anytime soon lol.

That quaife is awesome, but only if you have the tranny out.
Otherwise, removing the tranny is not worth it IMHO.

Today I replaced the center cup holder courtesy of the parts car, filled ac 75% full including a small dose of dye, and I got most of the sunroof repasted with rtv (not a stationary type fix).

Well i did the biggest job on a Volvo in the history of mankind today!
Yes, i changed the windshield wipers (ha ha).
A cheap pair this time so if stolen again wont lose much money.
Frigin' nasty b******s out there (the stars are not to bleep out the expletive it's because i didn't know how to spell that word (har har).
I’ve been driving a Volvo long before anyone ever paid me to drive one.
That's probably because I've been driving one since 2015 and nobody has offered to pay me yet.
1998 v70, non turbo, FWD, base model, on the road from April 2nd, 2015 to July 26, 2023.
