1998 Volvo V70 glt..what oil filter?

Post by surfbug1 »

Prolly a huge debate here....

Nice Saturday in northern VA, so time to change the ehrllllll
:D :D :D

Can't find a Mann oil filter at AutoZone

Maybe I gotta try Napa

But.....if I can find this thing,

What is the best oil filter to use, or will any thing do the trick?

Fram maybe, or Purolator?

Thanks for the answers/suggestions/input!!!!

Wix.
I wouldn't use Fram, Purolator, etc.

Mann owns Purolator. I looked up the filter on Amazon and it says COO is China, Though. I've got a synthetic Champion Labs filter on my 850, but that's from Rockauto. Before that I had a Mahle. Wix is probably your best bet locally, but more of those are coming from China now, too.

Personally, I'd rather put the job off and order something online.

I'd expect Mann buying out a budget filter company to mean ... close to nothing. Purolator has been around forever and the filter market is very crowded, they aren't messing with its market niche.

Wix is good, so is K & N, you can buy those walk-in.

The last few walmarts I walked into no longer carried the K&N HP2004, which is upsetting. Mann filters are what I throw into all my FCP orders. Best price you're going to get for a quality filter anywhere. Cheapest and easiest to find locally is the NAPA gold (because it's basically a truck filter). 6/10 you will get a Mann + Hummel branded filter out of the NAPA box (1/10 it was a Wix). They are all identical to the Mann filter used by Volvo. And all the ones I bought were made in Europe too, so I think that pretty much proves it.

The last Wix I bought for my Cherokee was a Mann filter with a Wix label stuck on it, Made in Germany.

Purolator is also excellent choice...at least in EU.

Purolator filters are used on French cars a lot.

It costs around 5x more in Volvo dealership than one Mann,Knecht(Mahle) or Bosch...at least in EU.

Genuine Volvo oil filter could be one of those brands.

We can't get them nowhere except at dealership only.

Bosch,Mahle or Mann are around 7-8€.
Genuine Volvo is 40€+.
