Sunroof track arm

Post by Sveedy »

Well I decided to look into why the sunroof wouldn't retract, and found this broken arm on the passenger side. So two questions;
Does anyone have a pic of what it's supposed to look like attached, and is it a part that can be replaced with a junkyard piece without removing the whole track assembly ( with the headliner :cry: ) ?

Can you take a picture of the part? I have a bunch of parts from a sunroof in the garage and might be able to figure this out to help you.

Mounts in that hole in the arm, and has little posts that ride in that slot behind the metal arm.

Thanks Neil. It looks like I'm just going to have to source a track assembly for future install. No sense in doing that project till I need to do the headliner.

I am fairly sure all the P80 sunroofs are the same. Might be easier to pull the whole sunroof 'cassette' to install. Easier than trying to repair your own, especially when you will probably have to remove the headliner. Also will allow you to chack and replace if necessary the sunroof drain tubes that get fragile around their exit points.

I'll have a look at that arm to see if I can figure out how it attaches.

May have to wait until tomorrow as we are going to visit friends later for dinner.

I didn't think anything more than the glass could be removed without taking out the headliner. If the forward part of the assembly can be removed by itself, then that would be great !

Thanks again !

Buttoned everything up, and the silly thing works, even with the missing arm. But I'm not taking any chances, and will leave well enough alone till I find a replacement track rail arm. There are a couple of '99s in the junkyard, so I'll see if they are the same setup.

Sveedy - did yours slide open but only 2" or so? That's what mine is doing. The rear will raise up and down, but flat it won't slide back to open.
